In Indian yogic philosophy Shiva is considered to be the Lord of Yogis.  Among the three aspects of divinity he is the destroyer: Brahma – the creator, Vishnu – who maintains or preserves and Shiva destroys or changes shape. G.O.D – Generator, Organizer, Destroyer.

Symbolism of Shiva brings two aspects: asceticism and transcendence over passion and connection to sexuality, sensuous and our ability to work in plutonian way – destroy whatever needs rebuilding. Shiva destroys through his third eye power, in the form of a fire that destroys and depletes. This is the life cycle of birth, death and rebirth as Infinity has all these metamorphoses, that is projected through the third eye.

Every day we experience a small death when we go to sleep and move to a phase of renewal. In yoga we practice Shavasana –  Corpse Pose at the end of each class , which allows us to be in a state of relaxation to release the old and implement the new and what we worked on during practice. This asana which seems very easy but actually is a very important part of the Yogic practice and is meant for renewal and transformation.
The essence of Shiva can also be related to the first chakra, Muladhara, through which we are working on elimination, and the sixth chakra, Ajna, or the third eye, that is associated with intuition and connection to a higher knowledge.

So how does this relate to the New Moon?
The new lunar cycle will start on Wednesday 11/11/2015 at 17:47 GMT at 19 degrees Scorpio. Along with the new moon also there’s a structure of Yod or “Finger of God” in the sky chart. The Moon and the Sun will be at the base of the structure in Scorpio sextille Jupietr in Virgo and Uranus is at the apex. Scorpio and Virgo are both archetypes that are associated with the first chakra and working with the elimination organs of the body. Uranus is connected to the third eye and being in Aries, we get the interesting image of fire bursting from Shiva’s third eye.

This structure speaks of the need to slow down a little, be patient and work processes for cleaning and renewal so that we can connect with our strength, the power of the mind, which can destroy us but also can renew and rebuild. In the yogic tradition, for example, we practice meditation and mantras to clean the subconscious and for regeneration, with emphasis on our projection from of the mind.

Uranus (the Mind) in Aries wants to break free, find a new path, conquer new and unknown territories and push the boundaries beyond the familiar and what we know, but in addition to being in retrograde he is at the apex of the Yod, and actually have to go through a process of refinement before moving forward.
This process involves the release of beliefs related to feelings of inferiority, insecurity, fear of rejection and abandonment , a sense of belonging and our security here on Earth. This process connects us again with our inner strength, brings back our power, and the alchemy that occurs with the new moon brings an energetic opening for us to reconnect from another place, safe and cleaner, to the cosmic knowledge and to our spiritual dimension. It takes courage and presence, looking inward without fear and choose what should go and clear the way to start a process of transformation.

Often our tendency to self-destruction comes from inner necessity to make a change. Sometimes we do not know how to define this need and to understand where it comes from. If we continue to work on refining the mind, cleaning the subconscious and neutralization of negative thoughts, without falling into the same holes over and over again, which can be accompanied by anger and rage about life, about ourselves or others, we can go through a small renewal process every day. It requires daily practice, Sisyphean work, that can help us change our lives, or rather our approach to life.
